HYDRANGEA ARB. 'ANNABELLE': A Stunning Performer
This old-fashioned, durable favorite is all about the flowers. The mammoth blooms, measuring up to one foot in diameter, last from June to September and actually grow larger as the season progresses. 'Annabelle' was discovered in a lucky garden in Anna, Illinois, and this arborescens variety eclipses all others in terms of flower size, duration, and durability.
The colossal blooms may sometimes be too much for the stems to support, so it's best to plant 'Annabelle' en masse for support or to add a support cage. Pruning less vigorously can also encourage stronger stems. This hydrangea thrives in almost any well-drained garden soil and will grow and flower well in full sun or partial shade.
Don't forget to cut some blooms for drying! The plant is delivered directly from our nursery in a 3-gallon trade pot, fully rooted in the soil and ready to be planted immediately upon arrival, weather permitting. We advise against planting during frigid winter months or under drought conditions. Planting and care instructions will arrive with the shipment.
For best results, plant 'Annabelle' in USDA Zones 4-8. The mature height is 3-5 feet, and the mature spread is 4-6 feet. These gigantic white flowers, up to a foot in diameter, bloom during the summer months. The plant grows well in both shady and sunny areas.
It's important to note that the plant will be dormant (without leaves) during the late fall through the winter months, which is normal. It will leaf out again in the spring.
